Down with Child Labor

Utilitarianism is commonly defined as the rule of producing “the greatest good for the greatest number.” The ultimate ethical goal according to utilitarians is to produce the best consequences for all parties affected by the decisions. Decisions that accomplish this goal are the right decisions to make ethically; those that do not are ethically wrong.  However, this is a flawed social philosophy which only benefits a minor percentage of the social, economic or political minority.

A Giant with Compassion

There’s both humility and empowerment in the simple act of giving to the ones who are desperately in need. You would feel humbled by the blessings you’ve been receiving from God and be more grateful than you can imagine. And there’s this sense of empowerment because you were able to change and impact lives to the best of your ability. As a scholar of a non-government organization, we were taught early on to not only dwell on the act of receiving but rather focus more on giving and lending a hand to others.

While culture shapes the people who are members of the organization, it is also shaped by the people who comprise that organization.
